Dear Eleanor,

I did not get to see the most recent Paris exhibition of Serge Bassenko’s photographs of Venice, nor do I know when the next one will be, but I am full of amazement and admiration for the photos on his website.

They are of profound beauty: fascinating, troubling, unsettling, they arouse intense emotions.

They seem to express the soul of Venice rather than its face; they take you deep into the mystery of our beloved Venice without revealing it.

These photos are the work of a true artist, of great humanity and sensitivity.

Non ho avuto l’occasione di vedere l’ultima mostra fotografica parigina di Serge Bassenko su Venezia, né so quando sarà la prossima, ma ho ammirato con stupore le foto sul suo sito in rete.

Sono di una bellezza profonda: affascinano, sgomentano, turbano… suscitano emozioni intense.

Sembrano esprimere l’anima di Venezia, più che il suo volto; ti fanno entrare nel mistero della nostra amata Venezia, senza svelartelo.

Foto di un grande artista, di grande umanità e sensibilità.
